Since the outset of this pandemic, Pfizer has been committed to playing its part in discovering breakthrough therapies and vaccines to fight this global health crisis. Throughout 2020, we worked closely with governments, international initiatives and other stakeholders to ensure that once an effective vaccine was discovered, we could supply the world together as quickly as possible.

Our commitment to equitable access has informed our approach of prioritising engagement with national governments and international initiatives to ensure a coordinated national and international approach.

Discussions with the Government of South Africa, which remain confidential, have been ongoing since 2020 and continue at an appropriate pace. Pfizer would like to reiterate its firm commitment to supporting the government’s COVID-19 vaccine strategy and will continue to partner with the government to ensure South Africans have access to the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.
